What is the main difference between iVault for Smartphone and iVault for Web?
They are closely linked together but you can use one without the other. You may backup and restore one with the other.

How secure is iVault?
We use the same methods developed by banks to secure their online services.
1. iVault uses a strong encryption method with a 256 bit key and the Blowfish algorithm.
2. Access to your vault requires two passwords:
- the first one, called the PIN, allows account access to check subscriptions and view your vault list.
- the second, called the vault password, allows decryption and access to vault data.
3. Your complete PIN is never sent over the Internet. Only 3 characters from your PIN are required, and are randomly selected for each login.
4. Your vault password is never sent over the Internet – it always remains on your local device.
5. Data going between our servers and your browser gets encrypted using the HTTPS protocol.
6. The iVault team will never know your passwords. We don't store them! Don't lose them!
7. The entire database is encrypted (fieldnames and values).
8. Three failed attempts to login (wrong PIN) into your account blocks you until the next day.

What is the difference between the PIN and the vault password?
Both are required!
1. The PIN is comprised of digits only (0-9). It allows you to access your account to check your subscription and access your vault.
2. The vault password, allows you to decrypt and access your data from your vault. It uses any characters (digits, western, cyrillic, Asian alphabets and ideograms, etc.).
Keep your passwords in a safe place, as iVault cannot give out lost or forgotten passwords.

What are the minimum vault password and PIN lengths?
- A minimum of 1 character is required, however, for the maximum level of security we recommend you use at least 8.
- 4 digits for the PIN.

How do I choose a secure password?
Avoid using:
- combinations of common words.
- significant dates, such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
A good method is to take the first letter of your favourite sentence:
i.e. "I like iVault because it is efficient, secured and I've been using it for ages" makes the following password: "IlibiiesaIvbuifa"

I've lost my password. How can I get it back?
We cannot give out lost or forgotten passwords for security reasons.
A highly secure system would require you to provide us with a physical address and a hard copy of your password mailed via post. To keep iVault an anonymous service, we do not provide lost or forgotten passwords..

Can I store files?
Plain text file storage is not in the current product plan, but may be added in the future if our users express a need for it.

What is the maximum vault size?
Typical vault capacity is approximately 300kb (300,000 characters). Storing images will dramatically increase the amount of space used. Depending on the quality, size, and level of encryption, a 320 x 480 pixel picture could range from 25 to 100kb. As a result, we must limit the number of pictures to 50.
To keep subscription prices low, size is limited to 10mb per user.

How many vaults can I store?
You may store up to 1 vault in your Smartphone. The vault will be named "default" in the Web version.

Why is iVault for Web not free?
The annual subscription model allows us to keep the iVault site free from ads, and ensures we can provide state-of-the-art servers and data lines to maintain high service speeds.

Is iVault affiliated with any banks or other financial institutions?
No. iVault is owned by a private company based in Switzerland.
